Skyfall is all about Judi Dench's retirement from the James Bond franchise

My question is who cares about "M" anyway? "M" was always a bloke anyways with the exception of Judi Dench playing the character in the 1995 movie Goldeneye till date. Since the first James Bond movie till date there has been so many actors who have played Bond's character and never in a single plot did we find justification for the new actor playing Bond. Even in recent times when Pierce Brosnan was replaced by Daniel Craig we did not find the plot providing any justification. They replaced “Q” once again but no justifications given. I was surprised that Skyfall's whole plot is based on replacement of Judi Dench by Ralph Fiennes. Infact when Ralph Fiennes was introduced for the first time in the movie one could understand that he is going to be Judi Dench’s replacement in the next Bond flick. Biggest giveaway being their names Dench’s code name is M which is short for Emma where as Fiennes’ initial says M since his name in the movie is Mallory – no brainer that one. What’s making me go angry is that why waste 143 minutes of viewer’s time to merely kill Judi Dench. M is nobody. James Bond movies are about super villains with their super evil plots where Bond will come to the rescue and save the day in typical Bond style. What happened to all that. Bond has merely been reduced to a Bodyguard. His mission is to protect “M” from a villain who seeks revenge from “M” but Bond fails to save her life thereby allowing Mallory to become the new “M”. Atleast “M” is a bloke once again! The movie is otherwise brilliantly made. The cinematography, stunts, action sequences and soundtrack is mind-blowing. It’s a true blue action movie and most definitely a cinemagoer’s visual treat. Now go watch it if you already haven’t.

That's a great point; it was a little disappointing that Bond was reduced to bodyguard status and the whole emotional journey kind of takes away from his "cold killer" status.
Other than that, great film, especially after the failure of Quantum of Solace. It gives me hope for a future of non-Fleming-based films.

I'm upset that m was killed off. I'm a big James bond fan I feel that all of the 007 movies are great movies. But m was a vital character in all of the films.
